How we make recommendations
Our gear guides are built from published specifications, manufacturer information, extension and research sources, and the consensus advice of experienced beekeepers and local clubs. We do not accept payment for placement, and a commission never determines what appears in a guide or what order it appears in.
We also tell readers when not to buy something. Several of our guides actively recommend borrowing equipment from a local beekeeping club, buying used, or waiting until a second season, because that is usually the better advice for a beginner even though it earns us nothing.
Live bees are not affiliate products
Queens, packages, nucs, and established colonies are bought from local clubs, regional breeders, and bee suppliers rather than from Amazon. Where we cover buying bees, we point readers to those sources and earn nothing from it.
